Congratulations on your purchase of an Unagi Model One! This comprehensive guide should run you through the steps of getting your scooter into an up and running state.
What do I need to know?
- Out of the box you should find, an Unagi Model One, charger, handlebars, hex wrench and four hex screws.
- Please charge the battery up before using your scooter for the first time.
- Ensure that you have all the correct safety clothing for riding an electric scooter.
- Please keep the box for at least 28 days in the event an issue may arise.
- Do not ride with your foot on rear fender, this acts as the second braking option on your Unagi Model One.
Out of the box - What should I find?
Straight out of the box you should not only find the elegance of the Unagi Model One; you should find a box containing the headset, four hex head screws, a hex driver and the suitable charger for your Unagi Model One.
The assembly process of this scooter is remarkably easy with the only assembly required being that of attaching the handlebars to the stem of the scooter. During this step, caution is recommended to not accidentally crush the inner cable between the frame of the scooter and handlebars. To secure these parts together all is needed is the four hex head screws.
With all this fitted, your scooter should have now taken its form!
Now my scooter scooter is all put together, can I take it out for a run?
Understandably, you may be awfully eager to take your scooter out on its first ride, however, we would highly recommend for the battery to be fully charged before your first journey. From the factory, these Li-ion batteries are initially charged with a 'storage charge' which is, in essence, the safest voltage for long period storage. This type of charge, however, isn't particularity useful if you are intending to ride the scooter so you'll need to place the battery on charge and wait for the LED on the charger to turn green.
Of course, I can completely understand the eagerness to get on and go, however, the battery on these models should really be charged fully before the first journey. The first charge of a Lithium based battery is often decisive in its future longevity. A full charge of one of these batteries can take up to five hours, however, it is often much quicker than this.
Thankfully, due to the nature of solid tyres, tyre pressure isn't a consideration when it comes to these models.
A little bit about safety...
Of course, just like any other vehicle, there are certainly precautions that have to be made before riding your e-scooter. Helmets, kneepads and elbow-pads are all pieces of equipment we would highly recommend to be worn, whilst, there are some other more obvious precautions. We would advise against riding the scooter whilst, intoxicated, on medication, when pregnant or when it is raining. When riding your e-scooter, please do consider all possibilities before embarking on your journey.
The Unagi Model One can reach speeds of up to 19mph which is awfully fast for a scooter. Often, we would recommend for users to gradually increase their speed (within the users range of comfort) as they become more acclimatised to their scooters characteristics. This scooter has options for selecting several speed modes.
On the right hand side of the handlebars, just above the throttle is a button which if pressed twice in quick succession will change the speed modes. There should be three available modes which should be named "1", "2" and "3". Initially when getting used to the scooter, we would always recommend for users to start by using mode "1" (which is the slowest and most controllable mode) and steadily moving up as they feel more and more comfortable.
Due to the dual motor design of this scooter, both motors can be used or only the rear. For more information regarding the motors on this scooter, please read this article.
Now with this all sorted and my battery charged, am I ready to ride my e-scooter?
Yes! With your battery charged and safety clothing worn, you should be more than ready to hop onto your scooter for the first time!
But I have more questions!!!
